The goal of the school health program is to support student learning in a safe, healthy environment.

 

You can help ensure the health and safety of all BRMS students by:

  • Notifying your school nurse of any health concerns or chronic health condition that may affect your child's school day.
  • Following PWCS regulations when requesting medication to be given to your child during the school day.
  • Providing current emergency contact information for your student, keeping the emergency card updated at all times.
  • Notifying school personnel if your child is absent due to a contagious illness.
  • Keeping sick students at home (see Reg. # 758-1) and supporting school staff in keeping well children in school.
  • Notifying PE teachers directly if your child has any PE restrictions.
  • Encouraging good hygiene/hand washing practices at home and school.

FIGHT THE FLU with "COMMUNITY IMMUNITY"
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. The Health Department encourages all eligible parents and students to get vaccinated in an effort to achieve “community immunity” which will extend protection from the flu to the entire community, especially the vulnerable such as those who are ineligible to receive the flu vaccine or are at greater risk of flu-related complications.
 
 
Flu Facts
 
•  An annual flu vaccine is the best way to fight the flu.
•  Flu vaccine is safe and effective.
•  Flu vaccine cannot cause the flu.
•  CDC recommends that everyone 6 months and older, get vaccinated against the flu every year, especially people who are at high risk. ( http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/high_risk.htm )
 
  
  Fight the Flu 
In addition to the flu vaccine, the following precautions can help stop the spread of flu
  
 
  •  Cover coughs and sneezes properly.
  •  Wash hands properly and frequently (or use hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available.)
  •  Stay home from work or school when sick.

MEDICATION REMINDER
Any medication to be administered at school must be provided by the parent in a new, sealed, original container and be accompanied by the required form!  Medications delivered to school without the completed/signed form (parent signature for OTC medications and physician signature for prescription medications) will not be administered to your student.
Please refer to regulation #757-4 when requesting medication to be administered to your student.  Forms can be accessed on this website, the PWCS main website, or the school office.

Hand Hygeine
Frequent handwashing is encouraged at school and we recommend that any open wounds be clean, dry and covered at school.  Waterless hand sanitizer is available in the cafeteria for student use. Parents are welcome to send handwipes or gel for their own student or donate some for classroom use.
